The PlightFor the fifth year, the Brother 2 Brother Literary Symposium (B2BLS) is bringing together a collection of nationally published African-American male and female fiction writers who have gathered to identify ways at which they can advance literacy in their communities. Topics for DiscussionIt’s about time that we get together and talk about the issues that affect our communities and illiteracy. These topics include:
A Positive InfluenceMost African-American fiction writers recognize the deficiency of African-American men reading fiction today. Concerned about the downward trend of African-American fiction readers, the group is structuring and conducting a symposium to address these concerns. To bring about a lasting impression on current and future readers, we’ve gathered the community, booksellers, educators and literary enthusiasts to invoke a positive, measurable impact that we hope to continue. Nothing Short of HistoricJust imagine critically acclaimed, nationally published African-American writers in the same room with the community. They’ll share their knowledge and love for literature with African-American and minority youth, from eight and up. And it’s FREE! Yes, the symposium is free and open to the public. Make no mistake this is nothing short of historic. Why? We’ll have:
If We Read, They ReadThe dire need to address the literacy problem in our cities, specifically the lack of literacy among young people is imminent. With many public school children scoring below grade level on Standardized English Language Arts tests, it is clear that young people are simply not being endowed with one of the basic fundamental life skills: the ability to read. The inability to read directly affects the future of this economy and our country. Fiction Reading Is…Fiction reading is that intricate combination of imagination and consciousness. Fostering a love of reading is our goal. And it’s our desire that you’ll use the symposium as a springboard for boys’ reading groups and programs across the country. Join UsCome out and join us for a spectacular event that combines literacy awareness, special guest author’s presentations, an educational component, book signings, anthology of short stories, and extensive discussions on why “African American youth and adults have struggles reading and completing their educational goals?”
There has never been a literary event that promotes literacy and hosts so many Nationally Published Authors in one place at one time.
This is a family event. That’s open to the public. For event details click here. Your donations help support bringing literacy awareness to thousands of inner city children. Donate today. Receive our announcements as they happen!
